Rev. Susan Chamberlin Smith has been the pastor of Trinity
UCC since March 1, 1992. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Organ Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University and received
her Masters of Divinity degree from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California, in 1984. Before coming to Deerfield,
she served as interim Association Minister of the Chicago Metropolitan Association of the United Church of Christ. Pastor
Susan and her husband Bill have two children, Alexis, who teaches music at Hillcrest Elementary School in Burlington, North
Carolina, and Gregory, who is a computer software engineer in Milwaukee. In 2001, Pastor Susan was awarded
a sabbatical grant from the Lilly Endowment, during which she wrote liturgical resources for the three-year lectionary cycle.
Susan serves as the chair of the Standing Subcommittee of the Church and Ministry Committee, Chicago Metropolitan Association.
