Rev. Susan Chamberlin Smith has been the pastor of Trinity UCC
since March 1, 1992. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Organ Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University and received
her Masters of Divinity degree from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California, in 1984. Before coming to Deerfield,
she served as interim Association Minister of the Chicago Metropolitan Association of the United Church of Christ. Pastor
Susan and her husband Bill have two children, Alexis, who teaches music at Hillcrest Elementary School in Burlington, North
Carolina, and Gregory, who is majoring in Computer Science at Indiana University, Bloomington.
In 2001, Pastor Susan was awarded a sabbatical grant from the
Lilly Endowment, during which she wrote liturgical resources for the three-year lectionary cycle. In addition to her involvement
in the Chicago Metropolitan Assocation, Susan serves on the Bioethics Committee of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
